Thanks so much for this, Medea. It's heartbreaking to me seeing what we have done to Cuba. Only 9 years ago, Christopher and I stayed at the Hotel Nacional for our 20th anniversary. Havana was vibrant with art, culture, food and so much hope. Thank you for bringing aid and your commitment to challenging our "electeds" and forcing the public to face our actions more and more.

America really is in a self-inflicted mess. I would suggest to Mr Trump, save your own country rather than interfering in world politics. Leave the rest of the world to sort itself out without your heartless 'assistance'

Peace with Cuba, Cuba sends doctors to other countries to care for people. The US sends weapons to other countries to kill people. If the US and Israeli military are merged into one, as is proposed, we will not even know how many weapons are sent to Israel, it will be one military with Irsael having operational access to US weapons.

I too went to Cuba with Global Exchange a month after I returned from Gaza in 2012. I also stayed in the elegant Hotel Nacional, and the Buena Vista Social Club was playing there and I watched them perform a couple of nights. What I have read is that when I was in Havana in 2012 there were some of the original members alive from the BVSC. Although I realize historically during Cuba’s segregation laws, the Buena Vista Social Club referred to a members-only-club where notable Black Cuban musicians would play. I guess it is also an umbrella term for the style of music played at the club. Medea, thoroughly enjoyed our guided tours , each one was a new adventure, and as you know I am not much of a go along person. Especially, the Literacy Museum and the Gender Institute. I managed to go off on my own as I am fluent in Spanish. I especially enjoyed Havana’s antiquarian shops where I bought a book on the history of slavery in Cuba, and some wills referring to indentured Irish servants. Also, Cuba supports various ethnocultural associations. I visited the African Cultural Association and the Arab Union of Cuba, a merger of the Lebanese Society of Havana, Syrian Progress Society, and the Palestinian-Arab Society of Cuba, and visited with the lovely Palestinian descent woman in charge, and ate there too. Due to the embargo they improvised on the tabbouli, on recall I don’t think burghul was available.

What I can say is that I enjoyed the state- run restaurants more than a few of the paladares I tried . I wandered and walked all over Havana and one night to hear son music. On return from Miami to L.A. my luggage never arrived in L.A. so the few gifts I bought, even the wills of the indentured Irish worker in Cuba, vanished except my book on the history of slavery in Cuba and a pair of coconut shell earrings, $5.00 in value, which I had placed in my carry-on bag. Methinks that baggage carriers in Miami might have likely lifted my baggage in protest for me traveling to Cuba. My luggage never to be found and returned to me.

As a side note , Cuba and Iran were one of the best Global Exchange trips I have taken . On second thought, enjoyed also the Day of the Dead Oaxaca trip.

In closing, thank you, Medea, for your tireless work for justice, and exposing all what our government does, regardless under the Republican and Democratic administrations.

We are in the belly of the US Empire beast. It does what all empires do: crush those who resist. Cuba resists, therefore gets crushed. Making it hard for Americans to travel there to help the Cuban economy and/or to help Cubans survive is part of that crushing. Until the Empire falls, its behavior will not change. A beast will never act like a pussycat no matter how hard you try to make it. You have to slay it.

Thank you for this, Medea. I traveled to Cuba last spring, and I have to say that the only place I felt threatened was in Miami on the return trip...

Also: just today I read that two major Canadian tour operators have canceled all packages to Cuba - a totally nonsensical move...

Tyrants, tyranny, traitors, and treason don't abolish themselves. It's going to take all of us genuine true-blue red-blooded Americans under one cause, moving in one direction, with one goal. Freedom comes at a price, that means sacrifice. Who are the real patriots of American Liberty in this country? Are there any out there? Hello? Anyone here?

You're free people, right?

Against all enemies and hazards.

That's the pledge, right?

Where is you integrity and honor?

Start up your militias.

Freedom calls the brave.

Revolution is the solution.

90 miles away geographically, but 1,000 miles away in the vindictive mind and heart of a MAGA regime bent on retribution.

The US government does not want Americans to see what the Cuban government does for Cubans in case they start asking for some of the same! These regimes that US governments want to change are not oppressive regimes they are democratic socialist regimes that take care of their own citizens and the US can't have people wanting that!
