"These strikes could ignite a regional firestorm that spins out of anyone’s control."
I believe that was the true purpose of these attacks on Iran. The oligarchs want us running around like chickens with their heads cut off. We're distracted, confused and angry, and in that fog they can take whatever resources they like from whomever they like with impunity. The way to fight back is to keep your wits about you and don't fall for the propaganda. This is about oil and land grabs. It has nothing to do with that tired, old excuse of "democracy and freedom" (TM) that American presidents like to give.
Deeply frustrated! Our european leaders were, far too slowly, starting to show some concern for what these mad men, Netanyahu and Trump, were doing in Gaza by depriving people, just like us, from life itself. Then, our leaders did not condemn the first attacks in Iran and went back to the 'Israel has a right to defend itself' retoric. Those mad men are pulling the whole world into world war three. And what will NATO do in The Hague, the country were I live, coming week? Nothing! Maybe they will even cheer those psychopathical war criminals on. I have never, never, never in my life seen such utter stupidity of world leaders! We need to disarm this world. Otherwise they will destroy us all.
I admire you greatly, but please let us not waste our time with the such idiotic notions of the legality of war. All wars are a crime , its oxymoronic to think a war is legal or illegal, its a crime.
Ever aggressor claims they have legal standing to attack, to murder and destroy , but none have ever taken their case to any international court for ruling in advance.
If the Americans public does noes not protest and demand that these war-mongers . traitors , be held accountable, than they too are complicit in another war crime.
Perhaps its not a troubling matter for many Americans, for thus far none have ever been held accountable for their war crimes, but times are a changing, the war-mongers have been sowing the seeds of their own destruction for decades , its only a question of time, as to when the rest of world brings in the harvest.
When we flagrantly attack a member of BRICS..... we've declared economic war as well. 3 members of BRICS original group also have nuclear weapons... that they could lend and Pakistan has already offered.
Having TV playschool misleaders like greasy haired Hegseth and a zero empathy Trump what else can we expect but disaster after disaster.... only 6 months in!
Thank you, Jennifer, for the information you have provided concerning the involvement of the United States in the overthrow of the elected government of Iran in 1953. I am reading all about it now. Very interesting and important information which you rightly point out that I have missed in this discussion. Again, thank you for the information.
The situation with Iran is not remotely compatible to the situation in Vietnam. Only a fool would make such a comparison.
Iran has been attacking Americans since 1979. Yes, they want to achieve the genocide of all the Jews in Israel, whom they call the “little Satan” and have been working toward building a nuclear weapon to serve that purpose. Something Vietnam never tried to do.
If they would do that to the nation they call “Little Satan” what do you think they would want to do with the nation they call the “Big Satan”? The ultimate threat to America is not merely the possession of nuclear weapons, but rather the determined purpose of gaining the power to use them as a first strike against any country, especially against the U.S.
Comparing this situation to the spreading threat of communism in Southeast Asia is far from analogous. There are no American Troops on the ground in Iran. We have not involved ourselves in defending Iran from invasion by communist infiltration.
Instead, we are preventing a sovereign nation from their stated purpose of building a nuclear weapon to achieve the genocide of the people of Israel and to threaten and intimidate anyone in the world who opposes them, especially the United States.
I support the President’s decision. It was necessary and perfectly legal for him to take this action.
The hubris of armed-to-the-teeth self righteousness of these two seems to have no limit. Just a gentle reminder: We killed 2 million Vietnamese to save them from Communism. Today, they are communist governed and make lots of things for us; we killed or the resulting fratricide caused 1.25 million Iraqis to die to save them from Saddam Hussein; we killed 250,000 Afghans only to see the Taliban return to power upon the heels of our departure. The price for these was tens of thousands of American troops' lives, hundreds ofvthousands of American troops maimed or mentally injured, trillions of dollars of American treasure.
The best thing Iran can do is ignore Trump, not open a front either the US and concentrate its attacks on Israel, both diplomatic and retaliatory on their war machine.
Nonsense! Trump has not declared war on Iran. He has simply diminished their ability to continue the war they have been conducting against Israel and America for the last forty years.
The president has the legal authority to conduct military operations without declaring a war. The nation, by electing him as president gave him the power to be the commander in chief of our military. He does not have to get congressional approval before taking military action. The president can fight an enemy without having a declaration of war.
There are many who support the president’s actions. I am among them.
NONSENSE indeed. Iran has not been “conducting” any sort of “war” against the U.S. Pure rubbish. Bombing a sovereign nation is not a solely a “military operation” but a clear act of WAR, which should be obvious even to those who sleepwalk through their lives. Rump claimed he was the president of peace. Clearly, that is merely one of his countless lies. I have seen this film before many times. It ends poorly, friend.
Indeed, the idea that the president cannot use our military to prevent our enemy that we have been fighting against for years is sheer unmitigated nonsense.
A sovereign nation that held Americans Hostages for 444 days in 1979. And a sovereign nation whose leaders have sponsored terrorist attacks against Americans around the world for years. A sovereign nation that sponsored Hezbollah who killed 241 U.S. Marines who were serving as a part of UN peace keeping forces in Lebanon in 1983. A sovereign nation that planned and financed the attack that targeted innocent civilians in Israel on October, 7th, 2023 and took hostages that included American citizens. A sovereign nation that sponsored and participated in fighting against our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan so much so that we had to kill one of the generals named Qasem Soleimani Who was responsible for the deaths of American soldiers.
The facts are clear. Iran has been attacking America snd killing innocent civilians in terror attacks, and our military in Iraq and Afghanistan. Do the foolish notion that our president cannot attack that sovereign nation is pure, unmitigated nonsense!
You have conveniently forgotten to include all of the legitimate reasons Iran had for their actions against the United States. You are just another war monger, peddling misinformation.
Oh, goody--you're going to sign up tomorrow at your local military recruitment center, right? One shouldn't cheer for war without putting their money with their mouth is--or their body on the front line.
My commission in the U. S. Navy is still in force. I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States. The expiration date on my ID Card is indefinite. If I am called to serve in a war to stop Ayatolkahs from having the ability to use a nuclear weapon. I am set to go. I made that trip to the recruiters office years ago and have already served in Foriegn wars of the United States of America and am prepared to do so again.
No one is “ cheering for war”. I have simply never pretended that we were not at war with Iran for the last forty years. I am glad that we have finally taken the war to them instead of constantly fighting their proxies and the hordes of terrorist they have unleashed upon the world, including America. My body has been where my mouth is now talking about.
I do not know you, friend. But you seem a bit confused about the history of the conflict with Iran beginning in 1979. Many American lives have been lost to the Iranian Ayatollah’s war they have been waging against us for years.
I can understand your objection to war. I find wars objectionable as well. But, the difference is that I have fought in those wars that have been forced upon us. This conflict with Iran is one of them. Your pretense that this current attack by American forces on Iran’s nuclear facilities is the beginning of a war is naive.
We have been fighting this enemy for a long time. We just have a president who is willing to take the fight directly to them instead of pretending there is no war and allowing the Ayatollahs to sponsor terrorist to attack us, like they did when Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy, killed 241 U.S. Marines in Lebanon, who were a part of a UN peace keeping force, via a suicide bombing of the Marine Barracks back in 1983!
Naturally, I would expect a communist not to care about the death of those marines. But I care about them. I care about all whose lives have been taken by terrorist supported by the Ayatollahs in Iran whose constant cry is “death to America”!
I care about the innocent Iranian men and women that have been brutally tortured and murdered by the Ayatollahs in charge of Iran.
Today’s attack was legal, it was justified, I support it.
My late grandfather, who retired as a Brigadier General and served under Gen. George S. Patton during WWII at the Battle of the Bulge, could tell that this isn't a just war. It's just another scam to steal Iran's oil reserves and force the Global South countries into keeping the petrodollar as their exchange currency.
As a friend who also served in the US Navy said, "When it came time to re-enlist after I served in Iraq/Gulf War, I asked my superiors, 'Which oil company are we fighting for this time?'"
Stop fooling yourself that this isn't all about stealing Iran's oil, land and other natural resources and causing chaos in that part of the globe. That's all the US ever does--oh, and fund and arm a genocide in Gaza and mass murder children. Ethnic cleansing is not a noble thing, btw. It's immoral and makes Jesus cry.
I read a statistic that kinda explains it all.... 54% of adults in the USA read and comprehend at a 6th grade level..... then they enlist to be some sort of hero.
I've been to four continents and many countries and there is a fear of the USA and little respect. It may seem reasonable to you to be a tool of the world's biggest bully, but even our allies are backing away.
Are you for real, your playing with semantics, please do inform us what proper procedure is for formally waging war on an other state.
When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor do you think they sent a telegram in advance?
Your willful ignorance is indicative of the arrogance of the war-monger class. The majority of Americans did not elect him to drag them into another war espically one started by genocidal war criminals.
You maybe a faithful and loyal servant of the President but you are a traitor to your country its constitution, complicate in a crime against humanity.
Nonsense . What I have said is accurate and true. Presidents in our history have taken military action without a formal declaration of war as commander in chief of our military to protect the United States.
My point is clear. Recognizing that a state like Iran has been attacking us via terrorist and via proxy actors for years is a legitimate observation. Responses to such threats and actions do not require a “declaration of war” by Congress for the president to take military action. That is not semantics. It is a simple and historical fact.
You are welcome to your opinion of me personally.
But calling me a traitor for supporting military actions against a state that has been attacking America and calling for “death to America” for years does not justify false accusations of being a traitor to the country. That is nothing more than a feeble ad hominem attack not a reasonable argument.
Thank you, Barbara, for your reply. I do not use any of the platforms that you have suggested. That means that you are completely wrong about something that you claim to have been so “sure” about.
You are welcome to your opinion of the effectiveness of my views expressed here on Substack. I am not sure about the criteria you used to determine the “effectiveness” of my opinions. But your false, very wrong, ideas about the platforms that I am using gives me very good reasons to doubt your claims about the effectiveness of my views
expressed here on Substack.
As far as your demands for me to speak out elsewhere is concerned, I will be the sole arbiter of that decision. I will write in any platform that I choose and there simply is not much you can do to censor me from speaking freely.
I am delighted that you are free to criticize what I have to say as it does give me the opportunity to reflect and change my views if I am wrong.
I have reflected on them and am even more convinced that I am right.
People like him keep posting their opinion while saying they know everything and no one else is as smart as them. They think they can bully people into believing they know something. It becomes so boring, because the actual content never changes because what they post is what they learned by rote, they never direct anything. Of course they could just be bots.
God save us from the egos of followers who swallow the lies.
You were so wrong in your reply that it did not require much reflection and does not need any further consideration. Reflection is a good thing. Perhaps you should try it.😇
I disagree with you, Lynn. Iran has been at war with America for the past forty years. Failing to recognize that reality and prevent them from getting a nuclear weapon is a reasonable act.
I disagree with you, friend. I appreciate and salute your late grandfather for his service to our country. I have an uncle who served under Gen. George S. Patton during WWII. Yet, I disagree with the idea that our conflict with Iran has ever been about oil.
I have heard the claims about the gulf war from some sailors that I served with. I even understand how they came to those conclusions concerning the gulf war, even though I do not agree with them.
But this Iranian conflict has not been about oil at all.
Preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon is not the result of a claim that Iran actually has a bomb. It is about preventing them from getting a bomb.
I do not think that even the destruction of their nuclear facilities would stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. But the destruction of the Iranian regime and freedom of the Iranian people from the clutches of the Ayatollahs would end the threat of a nuclear Iran.
The issue is not the mere possession of a nuclear weapon. It is the possession of such a weapon in the hands of an irrational dictatorship that could not be deterred from using such weapon by the threat of mutually assured Destruction.
Iran is a threat to the world. The reason China and Russia have not said anything to discourage efforts to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon is because they know that the Ayatollahs are as much of a threat to them as to the rest of the world.
My response to you was primarily to show that I am not one who is “cheering for war” without being willing to participate in a war. I have participated in fighting the Iranian proxies and terrorist as so many of my friends have done. The fight with Iran is not new, but it is, for the first time in forty years, coming directly to Iran. It was ultimately going to come to this and now is the time to finish this conflict by putting an end to the Ayatollah’s power over the suffering people of Iran.
The Hostages in Gaza would be released immediately if the Ayatollah in Iran ordered them to be released. The wickedness of the Ayatollahs in Iran is the very kind of evil that your honorable Grandfather fought to stop in WWII. We have to stop them now or we will be fighting them later at a huge disadvantage.
I also appreciate your suggestion that I inform myself and appreciate the links you sent to assist me in that endeavor. I will follow your good suggestion as it has always been my desire to be well informed. I presume that you have the same ambition and do not doubt that you have been inundated with lots of information. I do hope that your information has not been “one sided”. If it has been, then you cannot be “well informed”. Instead you might just be indoctrinated by incessant information from sources favorable to your bias.
It is not wrong to have a bias. Yet, it is a mistake to allow a bias to limit you to hearing only one side of any issue. For doing so prevents a just conclusion worthy of embracing and promoting to others.
By the way, Israel has a right to defend itself from Hamas. There is no genocide in Gaza. Israel is not responsible for the death and destruction has been brought upon Gaza by the Iranians via their Proxy force, Hamas.
In attacking Israel their intent was a genocide of the Jews. And several American citizens suffered from that attack as well. I mention this because you brought up that subject. Israel is not occupying land that they do not own. Nor is there anything like apartheid in Israel. And Israelis are not committing genocide. That is the propaganda that you have been fed.
If u are worried about the possession of such a weapon in the hands of an irrational dictatorship i would suggest u need to look at the current US regime, which HAS such weapons, is irrational, and seems to be moving quickly towards dictatorship!
"These strikes could ignite a regional firestorm that spins out of anyone’s control."

Thank you for the discussion.
If u are worried about the possession of such a weapon in the hands of an irrational dictatorship i would suggest u need to look at the current US regime, which HAS such weapons, is irrational, and seems to be moving quickly towards dictatorship!
